The first meeting of the East Sussex A27 reference group met today bringing together MPs and local council leaders who want to see significant improvements to the A27 between Lewes and Polegate.

The meeting, chaired by Kemptown and Peacehaven MP Simon Kirby, agreed that an offline dual carriageway between Lewes and Polegate would offer the most effective way of improving journey times, reliability and safety.

Simon Kirby, the Member of Parliament for Brighton Kemptown and Peacehaven, was pleased to take a tour of the Battersea Dogs & Cats home in London yesterday, to learn more about the work of the charity, discuss compulsory microchipping of dogs, and reforms to laws on dangerous and stray dogs. Mr Kirby was invited to take this tour in response to his strong and vocal support of animal welfare issues in Parliament.

Simon Kirby, MP for Brighton Kemptown and Peacehaven, has welcomed new figures released today which revealed that in Brighton Kemptown and Peacehaven the number of unemployed receiving Job Seekers Allowance has fallen by 1045 since the last election. This fall of 44% since 2010 brings local unemployment to below the national average. Youth unemployment has also fallen by 50% in the same period.
